White Provision Named "Development of Excellence"
October 07, 2010
ATLANTA (October, 2010) – White Provision, a restored, mixed-use project that delivers distinctive restaurant space, condo units, retail, showroom and office space in Westside Atlanta, recently received top honors as the 2010 Development of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Atlanta District Council, solidifying its position as a leader for sustainable redevelopment in metro Atlanta. The nonprofit organization’s 16th annual awards ceremony distinguished White Provision as a catalyst for regional growth, recognizing it as an outstanding project that both embraces and illustrates ULI’s principles of responsible land use and the creation of thriving, sustainable communities.
Located at the corner of Howell Mill Road and 14th Street at the core of the revitalized Westside Atlanta neighborhood, White Provision represents masterful creativity and a strong commitment to reshaping industrial cityscapes. Under the direction of White Provision Development Company and leading real estate firm Jamestown, White Provision includes both the thoughtfully restored 20th century meatpacking warehouse with the striking state-of-the art White Provision Residences building. The distinctive, modern community has changed the map of Westside Atlanta, instilling new focus for 4.5 acres of historic properties after decades of decline and neglect.
“We saw a tremendous opportunity in the historic White Provision building for the rebirth of Atlanta’s Westside community,” said Michael Phillips, a principal in White Provision Development Company and managing director for Jamestown. “The careful mix of historic and modern aesthetics established a unique dimension that is hard to find elsewhere in Atlanta. Our team really emphasized continuity and a sense of place, using the site’s heritage to create a timeless and authentic presence.”
With a welcoming design and strategic focus on resource responsibility and sustainability, White Provision has emerged as a creative destination in the heart of Midtown’s Westside district. The community stands as a regional anchor, sparking the architectural and cultural revival that is driving increased traffic to the area and attracting residents, retailers and business with a shared commitment to a sustainable, artistic landscape. Today, White Provision has redefined mixed-use properties, encompassing 98,000 square feet of boutique retail, showroom and restaurant space as well as 43,000 square feet of class A office space and 94 condominium units.
Armed with a strategic vision, the development team has carefully cultivated a complementary group of tenants to generate around-the-clock activity on site with award-winning dining, shopping, leisure and entertainment destinations. From whole-animal cuisine at Abattoir, a seasonally driven restaurant from acclaimed chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, to local favorite West Egg CafĂ© and the neighborhood tavern Ormsby’s from Warren Bruno, White Provision has captured the attention of the Atlanta dining community with an outstanding collection of veteran chefs and restaurateurs. The area’s sustainable foundations also carry to restaurant tenants such as YEAH! BURGER, the modern, organic burger eatery from prominent chef Shaun Doty, and the all-natural, organic frozen yogurt shop Yoforia. The development has welcomed regional businesses and organizations, including the German American Chamber of Commerce, InTopic Media and the law firm Fried & Bonder, in addition to offering specialty boutique shopping at Maison Atlanta, GARDEN, Perrine’s Wine Shop or Seed Factory and designer showrooms from luxury, organic and handcrafted companies The Urban Electric Company, Environment Furniture, Ava Design, Knoll Furniture and Room & Board. As a true trendsetting district, White Provision is also home to Dragonfly Salon and Spa, Spa Sentio, cutting-edge Pilates and GYROTONIC® fitness at CORE Westside and three established fine art galleries, Astolfi Art, Jackson Fine Art and Tanner-Hill Gallery.
“The value of White Provision lies in the unique character of the 20th century architecture and its central location among Atlanta’s economic centers,” said Chris Faussemagne, principal of White Provision Development Company and Westbridge Partners. “The bottom line for us was capturing a former industrial cornerstone as an integrated and approachable neighborhood at one of Atlanta’s most well-positioned intersections.”
Forming a joint partnership with the adjacent Westside Urban Market, White Provision has evolved into an integral part of the combined Westside Provisions District. An urban footbridge over the active Norfolk Southern railway lines provides pedestrian access to nationally renowned restaurants Bacchanalia, Quinones at Bacchanalia and JCT Kitchen among many others, plus stylish boutiques and shops such as Savvy Snoot, Sid Mashburn, Ann Mashburn, OwenLawrence, B Braithwaite and the upcoming spring 2011 opening of Anthropologie.
